We all experience the five hindrances in our practice – greed, ill will, anxiety, boredom, and doubt. Applying continuous and vigilant attention to identify these obstacles as they arise, we remove them in their tracks. Follow up with astute mindfulness to prevent them from assaulting the mind again and again. These seemingly small incremental steps have the cumulative effect of greater peace and purification of mind – as long we trust the practice and give ourselves to it fully. A talk given during a one week Satipaññā Insight Meditation Toronto (SIMT) retreat at Chapin Mill retreat centre, Batavia, NY, USA, Aug. 2014.
