Volunteering

Working together is a wonderful way to build community. Sati Saraniya Hermitage is sustained through the kindness of members of the community who participate in ongoing projects such as taking care of the grounds or refurbishing the buildings.

Volunteers serve on its board of directors, help coordinate the dana roster, manage the retreat schedule, and other activities. For the coming winter months, we will be on retreat. But next Spring, lots of gardening help will be needed.

We hope you will take time out from your busy schedules to join us for a day or more in this beautiful Dhamma sanctuary. The meal is at 11:00 am (potluck dana). In the afternoon, some of our outdoor projects will include:

  • Weeding at the Hermitage entrance and along our perimeter
  • Mowing lawns and pathways
  • Planting flowers in our Gratitude Garden and in the beds around the main house
  • Clearing the existing paths to the forest

We also need drivers to or from teaching events (usually Perth to/from Ottawa). In accordance with their monastic rule, bhikkhunis must be accompanied by another woman if a man is driving. If you are able to help, please contact: hermitage@satisaraniya.ca
